Beyond Containment

Trinidadian born activist, Claudia Jones was a Marxist-Leninist, feminist, anti-war activist, community leader who was deported from America in 1955 after living there for 30 years. She was deported as a result of communist persecution known as the Red Scare. In the U.K. she founded the anti-imperialist paper called the West Indian Gazette where her wrtitings are also included in this months book. What she is most well known for is being the founder of Notting Hill Carnival. Notting Hill was created as a response to to the Notting Hill race riots that saw Black families be targeted indiscriminately because the white working class wanted to keep Britain white. Hope you enjoy this Black Marxist feminist literature. Join us on the 30th of November at 6:30PM on zoom to discuss this book, also available in our bio link for those who cannot purchase.
